Our vision statement is “Making Waves Together “, where WAVES stands for “Wise, Adventurous, Valiant, Exceptional, Students”.

We have chosen this motto to reflect the close association between Hull and the sea.  Waves  convey a sense of excitement, courage and aspiration; they are constantly moving and growing, overlapping and redefining themselves. The intention of the motto is to inspire our students by celebrating their courageous and adventurous descendants and promoting an aspirational, adventurous and brave approach to life, in which we take pride in the quality of what they do. Because waves take different forms and shapes and they move constantly, our motto encapsulates respect for the unique strengths of each individual and their developing achievement and growth at school.

At Thomas Ferens  Academy we will promote the development of each and every student as an expert learner, helping them to attain the highest grades, good self-confidence and a love of learning. We will do this by:

• Creating an inspiring, well planned and welcoming environment making sure our staff are highly skilled.
• A ‘can-do’ approach will generate optimism, inspire confidence and encourage achievement.
• Creating a curriculum that engages young people in their learning so that they are motivated to learn and succeed.  They will have a very powerful experience which makes them feel that school is for them, while cultivating a real and genuine enjoyment of learning.
• Offering an extensive range of learning opportunities outside the classroom, coupled with the ‘World Citizen’ ethos, which will make school a lively place to be and give students a good education.
