When do I get my uniform? Where do I get and do I have to pay for the uniform?

Uniform fitting and distribution will take place on September 7th at Thomas Ferens Academy. Each Year Group will be given a specific time to come to be fitted out with uniform. The uniform is provided for Sir Henry Cooper students at no charge. Parents are expected to purchase the black trousers/skirt and the white shirt.

We want the students to look smart and to be proud to represent the academy. This means that wearing the uniform well is very important and we expect all students to  be in full uniform and follow our policy. The policy will be published in the next newsletter. Some girls have asked whether makeup is allowed and the answer is that it is not allowed.

Can students leave the Academy at Lunchtime?

Students will be expected to stay on site at lunch time. They can bring a packed lunch, but they cannot leave the site.

Find out more about the cashless catering system.

Are the Teachers and Staff from Sir Henry Cooper coming to the Academy?

Yes they are. There are many new teachers joining the academy as well.

Can we look around the Academy?

You will have a chance to go on a tour of the Academy when you get your uniform in September.

What are the arrangements for the first days of the new term?

We have now published details of these arrangements online. There will be a staggered start to the new school year so that each year group can be inducted into the new Academy.  Year 11 and Year 7 will come into the Academy on September 10th and Year 8, 9 and 10 on September 11.

Will there be trips at the new Academy

Some students have asked about this and the answer is that we plan to give students many opportunities to learn from going on trips and working with other people to learn outside the classroom.

There are no Heads of Year at the Academy. What do I do if I have a problem?

You will have two form tutors and they will be very important in your life at the Academy. They will be there to help you and support you and to make sure you get the best out of life at the Academy. There are other staff too who will support students who need help. For example there are three positive behaviour mentors.

How long are lessons?

Lessons are two hours long. There are three lessons each day. The teachers will plan lessons which are interesting and full of different activities so that they are interesting and engaging and so you can learn more and make more progress.

When will parents get reports home?

Reports will go to parents very 8 weeks.  There will be a parents’ meeting every term so that parents can keep up to date with their child’s progress and give them as much help and support as possible. Parents will be invited to the academy to see exhibitions of students work every 8 weeks.

Where can I leave my PE kit, coats or any other equipment?

Every pupil will be allocated their own individual locker. You will be able to leave you PE kit and coats and any equipment and books you do not need until later in the day in your lock. The lockers can be secured with a padlock. All students will need to provide their own padlock.
